Frequently Asked Questions

What is your construction process?

I hand pick the wood for each project. I use environment friendly, food safe, and water-resistant glue. After every gluing, I allow the glue to cure for up to 24 hours, depending on which type of board is ordered. This portion of the build can take 5 working days to complete. Total process can take between 8 to 10 days.

The sanding progressions start at 80-grit, then 120-grit, to 180-grit. After 180-grit, I wet the board which causes the wood to swell, feels fuzzy. Once dried, I complete the sanding with 220-grit. This gives the board a smooth surface to work on.

What will my final product look like?

Food safe mineral oil has been applied to your board along with a coat of beeswax. This enables you to use the board immediately when you pull it out of the box. I enclose a can of wax to coat your board when it begins to look dry or at least once a month.

Boards ordered without feet enable you to use both sides of the board. Included with the board is a non-slip, non-adhesive and washable liner. This is placed between the board and the counter surface to prevent slippage while in use.

How do I maintain my board?

Wash your board with soap and water and make sure you scrub it well. Most important is to use lots of water and scrub the board well. After washing the board, dry immediately with a towel and let it air dry standing up or on a raised rack with air flow.

Regardless of materials used, it is highly recommended to separate meats from other foods.

Oil/Wax
On a dry board, apply the oil/wax directly and be generous with your application. Use a clean cloth or brush to spread the oil/wax completely over the entire board. Let the oil/wax soak into the board for a few hours before using – overnight if possible.. Use a soft cloth to wipe and buff. While the oil penetrates the wood, the wax protects against stains and liquids. The wax also aids in sanitation, as it fills and seals in knife scars and microscopic cracks where bacteria would otherwise gather.

DO NOT:
– Put the board in the dishwasher. The heat and water will warp and splinter the wood.
– Dunk or let the board in stand in water. The wood will absorb water and potentially warp.
– Use bleach. This will stain the wood and /or excessively dry the wood.
– Put a wet board flat to dry. If the board dries on one side, it will cause the wood to warp.
